Making an Impact

Alex Jenkins takes a look at the highlights from 2015, a year that proved to be one of the most important and memorable in Hong Kong golfing history.

Doug Williams has enjoyed another standout year

Super Senior

No review of year would be complete without including the feats of Doug Williams. The Hong Kong Golf Club member has swept all before him on the local senior scene since turning 55 two years ago – and his form in 2015 showed no signs of abating whatsoever.

First of all he continued his amazing run of winning every HKGA-sanctioned senior event he has entered. Thanks to victories at the Hong Kong Seniors Close early in the year and, in November, the Hong Kong Seniors Open, where he came from behind to deny England's Stephen East by a shot, the American-born Williams made it six senior wins from six played on Hong Kong soil.

Then there was the little matter of his second successive appearance at the US Senior Open, one of professional senior golf's four major championships, after he won a qualifying event in California.

He also made it into the field for the US Senior Amateur and finished second at the French International Senior Men's Championship. For good measure – and to prove his prowess isn't just limited to the over-55s events – Williams claimed the Jockey Club Kai Sai Chau International Amateur Open in October by five strokes.
