Tiffany Chan lost in the round of 64

PENNSYLVANIA, 4 Aug 2016, (HK Golfer News Wire) - Tiffany Chan Tsz-ching heads to Rio after a painful, extra holes defeat in the round of 64 at golf’s prestigious US Women’s Amateur Championships in Springfield, Pennsylvania – but one which her coach feels will stand her in good stead for the Olympics spotlight.

Chan lost on the 21st hole to Gabrielle Shipley, recently crowned NCAA Division II champion.

It was nip and tuck to the eighth hole but Chan was 2 up after the front nine after consecutive birdies.

Shipley pegged her back though, and a birdie on the 16th put her 1 up with two to play.

Chan again immediately pulled level, and the pair were all square until Chan bogied the third extra hole to hand Shipley the win.

“It was a good match and she feels okay about it,” said coach Brad Schadewitz. “Both players played well. Every hole was contested.

“There were a lot of media and cameras around, so it was good prep for Rio.”
