Four-time winner faces a strong challenge at this month's Ageas HKPGA Championship

2002 PGA Championship winner Rich Beem

But it is the inclusion of major winner Rich Beem in the field which has raised the most eyebrows. Beem, who claimed the 2002 PGA Championship after holding off Tiger Woods down the closing stretch at Hazeltine National Golf Club, will make his first start in the event.

Beem, who made sporting headlines last October when he gave up his sponsors' exemption at the Hong Kong Open to allow Ian Poulter a place in the field when the Englishman was on the verge of losing his European Tour membership, said: "I absolutely love the city and am thrilled to be playing at the Ageas HKPGA Championship for the first time. It's an event I've heard a lot about on my previous visits to Hong Kong, so it's an opportunity I'm relishing."

The 54-hole tournament will be played from 11-13 January. The first round will be contested over the New Course at the Hong Kong Golf Club, with Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club hosting the second round. The all-important final day returns to Fanling and will take place over the Eden Course.
