A new chapter in Australia’s rich history of professional golf is about to be written as Darwin – the multicultural capital of the Northern Territory and Asia’s gateway to Australia – prepares to host the Territory’s first PGA Tour of Australasian event, following the joint announcement by the NT Government and the PGA of Australia of the inaugural Northern Territory PGA Championship.

The 2016 NT PGA Championship will represent much more than just a new tournament week on a burgeoning ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia schedule, which now boasts 16 events annually across five countries.

It heralds what is anticipated to be the beginning of an acceleration of growth in the game in a region that is best known for its vast expanse of ancient lands, stunning landscapes and an unbridled potential.

Images of Australia’s iconic rock formation Uluru, the stunning beauty of national park areas such as the Kakadu, Arnhem Land, Mataranka, Katherine Gorge, even the depiction of the Territory in movies such as ‘Australia’ and ‘Crocodile Dundee’, have forged perceptions and realities of life in the Territory in the psyche of many.
