Kataoka Pulls Off Another Comeback Win

It was an all too familiar scene for Japan’s Daisuke Kataoka again

Two of his previous victories on his domestic circuit were staged from comebacks. And it was no different for the Japanese’s chase for glory at this year’s Asia-Pacific Diamond Cup.

Starting his final round one shot back, Kataoka had to stage another fightback. And this time, it was against the likes of Thailand’s Poom Sakansin and countryman Tadahiro Takayama at the Caledonian Golf Club in Chiba, Japan. As fate would have it, Kataoka birdied three of his last five holes to win his maiden Asian Tour title by two shots.

“I didn’t think I had a chance to win today until Poom made the triple bogey on the ninth hole. The chances came for all of us,” said the Japanese.

Kataoka’s breakthrough has propelled him to fifth place on the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
