Double Whammy

Liu Lok-tin bounces back superbly to become the first local golfer since 1989 to win the Hong Kong Open Amateur title, his second big win of the year

"It's a little disappointing [to miss the UBS Hong Kong Open] as I've never played in it before and it's something I've always wanted to do. But the Asian Games is only played every f our years and it'll be a huge tournament, with the best amateurs from across the region. I'm hoping to be able to carry my form over there and for the team to do well.

National coach Brad Schadewitz, who has instructed Liu over the past six years, believes his young charge shouldn't be too concerned.

"I'm sure he'll have many more chances in the future to get into the Hong Kong Open," the American-born Schadewitz said. "It's unfortunate that the dates conflict this time, especially for Lok-tin as he essentially earned a double exemption, but there's nothing anyone can do about it. He played great this week – his finish was especially impressive – and he'll be full of confidence heading to Guangzhou."
