SHANGHAI, 27 Oct 2016, (HK Golfer News Wire) - The four-time Major winner has recorded top six finishes in four of his five previous appearances in Shanghai, and has won a World Golf Championships tournament in each of the past two seasons – the 2014 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and last year's WGC-Cadillac Match Play.

The strongest field to date will compete at Sheshan International Golf Club, with 40 of the world’s top 50 players teeing off at Sheshan International Golf Club tomorrow, and a third career WGC title would also boost McIlroy’s hopes of retaining his Race to Dubai crown.

Meanwhile Sweden’s Henrik Stenson is looking to add another title to his collection after a fantastic summer that saw him win the 145th Open Championship and an Olympic silver medal.

This year’s event is billed as “Return of the Superheroes”, with five golf stars revealing their individual superhero qualities at the tournament launch event. Taking the lead roles were: Open Champion Henrik “The Machine” Stenson, US Open winner Dustin “The Heat” Johnson, Rickie “Eagle Eye” Fowler, Bubba “The Magician” Watson and local hero Haotong “The Force” Li, who tied for seventh place at last year’s tournament.
