Trump's Caledonian Cracker

Alex Jenkins examines soon to be open Trump International

It doesn't open until July but the spectacular Donald Trump-owned Trump International - Scotland is already proving a hit with golfers, with more than 1,000 players having already bought tee times – at £200 (approximately HK$2,400) a head.

Trump's links, which is sited in Menie, Aberdeenshire, was designed by Dr Martin Hawtree, who has a Hong Kong connection. Hawtree was the man responsible for the remodeled 17th hole on the New Course at the Hong Kong Golf Club, which made its debut at last month's UBS Hong Kong Open as the 15th hole of the Composite Course.

The US$750 million project, which will eventually include a sumptuous clubhouse, a five-star hotel, plush real estate and another 18 holes of golf, has long been in the media spotlight, with environmentalists and local residents venting their fury at the New Yorker since his announcement to create "the world's greatest course" when he purchased the land in 2006.

Whatever your view of Trump, who has dedicated the property to his Scottish-born mother and wants acting legend (and avid golfer) Sir Sean Connery to play the first round, it's hard to argue with the look of the place from these photographs. Let's face it: who wouldn't want to play here? – Alex Jenkins
